Blood Brain Barrier

poem, poems, poetry, writing

Consuming caffeine.

Watching other people’s Tuesday routine.

Wondering if there is meaning in this stack of hay.

Is it possible we are only hurtling

Through space, self-sustaining?

My brain attributes meaning

To even the most mundane.

This could be a side effect of being human.

This could be a side effect of the universe burning.

Stars don’t twinkle for our enjoyment.

We enjoy the afterglow of heaven’s light show.

We rejoice when cloud coverage is low.

There is nothing to do but sit and wait.

Wait for the caffeine to kick in.

My brain attributes meaning

To even the most mundane.

Wait for a poem to pass the barrier,

Separating blood from brain.
